Hiker Distance Award Program
  
The Hiker Distance Award program recognizes hikers for hiking (or walking or snowshoeing) significant distances within Nova Scotia over the course of a year. Register Now! You tally your kilometres using a log book you can print yourself, provided online upon registration, or request a hardcopy of the logbook through mail or email.
If you tally 150, 250 or 500 kilometres within one year (365 days), you receive:

Hiker Distance Award Challenge for Youth

Youth can get involved by earning the Hiker Distance Award Challenge Patch! Tally these kilometres within one year:

Ages 5 to 8: 15 km

Ages 9 to 14: 30 km

Ages 15 to adult: 45 km

Redeeming Kilometres for a Pin or Badge
To redeem distances for a pin or badge, you must be a current member of Hike NS (go to our Membership page to join if you're not already). To submit your kilometres, you have two options:

Download the Tallying My Kilometres file (Excel file) to enter and calculate your kilometres. Save and then email this file to Hike NS.

If you can't or choose not to use the internet, you may mail a copy of your log book to us (it's a good idea to photocopy your original and mail the copy).

75K Challenge: Cape Breton Highlands National Park
Hike 75 km on Cape Breton Highlands National Park trails between May and October and receive a commemorative Cape Breton Highlands National Park 75th anniversary prize. A great way to kick-start your personal fitness program or simply enjoy the striking diversity of the park at your own pace. Coastline, lakes, mountains, valleys and barrens are yours to explore. Bring a signed list with trail names and dates hiked to park visitor centres in Chéticamp or Ingonish to receive your prize. Find visitor centres and more on the park at www.pc.gc.ca/capbreton.
Heart&Stroke Walkabout
Use a pedometer and keep track of your steps on the Walkabout website.
Volksmarch Clubs
Join a local Volksmarch Club, go on regular walks and tally your kilometres. |
